UBC survey: Nature and human well-being in times of isolation and a global pandemic

Dear colleagues,

The Faculty of Forestry of the University of British Columbia launched a survey to study the connection between nature and human well-being in times of isolation during the pandemic. You can find the survey here.

This survey will take 15 minutes of your time, but could have long-lasting impacts as it has the potential to inform decision-making around healthy lifestyle choices and healthy city planning in the future. The survey, which will circulate around the world, is gathering insights about how we engage with nature and how contact with nature impacts us during times of isolation, stress, and uncertainty. The survey is translated into 6 languages.

The survey consists of 7 sections: – Your current living conditions – Indoor nature – Views of outdoor nature – Nature in your immediate outdoor space – Going out in nature – Your general connectedness to nature – Your health and well-being

Your response can make a difference and we sincerely appreciate your time and support. The survey will close on May 31, 2020. Any person older than 18 years old currently or until recently in lockdown/self-isolation is invited to participate. If you decide to participate, the data you share will remain anonymous. This study relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and you do not have to answer any questions that make you uncomfortable. The aggregated information will be used in reports and publications associated with this research, and made available online (open access). All data will be collected in accordance with the British Columbia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Ethics ID number H20-01414). During the study, data will be safely stored in password-protected computers and only the study team will have access to this information. The data will be both password protected and encrypted.

If you have questions about this research in general, or about your role in the study in particular, feel free to contact Tahia Devisscher (tahia.devisscher@ubc.ca).

Many thanks for your support!
