Horticulture Association of Bhutan (HAoB) is a non-profit organization under Bhutan Chambers of Commerce and Industry with more than 3000+ members around the country. The members consist of Community Based Organizations, Cooperatives and Farmers’ Group. The association aims at promoting and enhancing horticulture in Bhutan through the collaboration with relevant agencies.
In Bhutan, majority of the population depends upon agriculture especially crops, fewer in the fruit, flower and plant cultivation. Bhutan has the potential capacity to grow various fruits and vegetables in different parts of the nation. However, with minimal knowledge and exposure, Bhutan/Bhutanese farmers concentrate on preselected cash crops for their livelihood. Our association acts as an agent for the nation to advocate the issues of producing similar crop impacting upon the market forces.
The association improves the practice of production through the promotion of creating awareness for the better understanding of the importance of Horticulture. The provision of trainings and workshop further enhance the knowledge about the existing economic activities attributing to the sustainable production.
The organization aims at promoting horticultural research and technology through research and development program. HAoB acts as the mutual and public voice for being both responsive and effective in representing shared concerns. Furthermore, to showcase Bhutan through its horticulture in international events, it focused on delivering a real benefit to all those involved and interested in horticulture.
The initiatives of the organization lead to the market access. Moreover, it delivers benefit for the interested population and entrepreneurs. The association emphasizes on general farmers, youth and entrepreneurs to undertake commercial agricultural production for self-sufficiency as well as for securing local market and sustainability.
