How to Rise to the Adaptation Challenge

Summary

Adaptation to climate change is happening, but it is small-scale, incremental and uneven. That’s according to the most recent adaptation report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Thelatest UN Environment Programme’s Adaptation Gap report has similar findings. Both UN reports conclude: Adaptation needs to move beyond the incremental and become ‘transformational.’ This means adaptation actions consider the long term, address risks more profoundly, and are designed with a big picture view across socio-ecological systems.

What does it take to rise to this challenge?

This press conference brings together different perspectives – from the public, private and research sectors – to raise awareness and understanding of the global nature of climate change impacts and the true scale of the risks it presents to our economies and societies. It also aims to shift the narrative on adaptation – and encourage more international cooperation on adaptation – to strengthen the resilience of our global systems, markets and supply chains to the cascading impacts of climate change.

Panelists will provide their perspective on what the adaptation challenge is, and how to rise to it, and answer questions from journalists.
